Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Blackpool and cover the whole Fylde Coast, including Lytham St Annes, Poulton-le-Fylde, Thornton-Cleveleys, Cleveleys, Fleetwood and Kirkham. If you are just outside that area, give us a call and we will let you know.

How long have you been roofing?

The Roofers was founded by Mark O'Reilly, who learned the trade from his father, a self-employed roofer since the early 1980s. Together the family brings more than 40 years of roofing experience to every job.

Are you insured?

Yes. We hold £2 million public liability insurance and £10 million employers liability cover for all the roofing work we carry out, and we are happy to provide proof of cover before any job begins.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. Every quote is free and comes with no obligation. Send us a few photos with your enquiry and we can often give you an initial idea before we even visit, then confirm with a detailed written quote after a survey.

How do I get a quote?

Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp or the enquiry form. It helps to include a couple of photos of the roof and a short description of the problem. We will assess it, arrange a visit if needed, and send a clear written quote.

What guarantee do you provide?

Re-roofs and new roofs come with a 15-year workmanship guarantee. The tiles, slates and membranes we fit carry their own manufacturer guarantees, typically a long service life.

How much does a new roof cost?

Every roof is different, so the cost depends on the size, pitch, materials, access and the specification your property needs. We give you a clear, fixed written quotation after a free initial assessment, so you know exactly where you stand before any work begins.

How long does a re-roof take?

Every job is individual, so timescales vary with the size and complexity of the roof and the weather. We will give you a realistic timescale with your quotation and keep you updated as the work progresses.

Do I need to move out during a re-roof?

No. You can stay in your home throughout the work. We keep the site safe and tidy and clear up fully at the end of each day.

What does a full re-roof involve?

A full re-roof normally involves removing the existing covering, inspecting the roof structure, and renewing the membrane, battens and covering with the specified ridge detail and any leadwork, valleys and ventilation the property needs. The exact specification depends on the property and system, so we advise on what your roof actually requires.

Can you match my existing tiles or slates?

In most cases, yes. We work with a wide range of tile and slate types and will source the closest match for repairs, or advise on the best modern equivalent for a full replacement.

How much do roof repairs cost?

It depends on the repair, the access and what is involved, so we always give you a clear price before any work starts. Send us a few photos with your enquiry and we can often advise on the likely cause before we visit.

Do you carry out emergency repairs?

We respond quickly to leaks, slipped tiles and storm damage. Call us as soon as you notice a problem and we will get to you as fast as we can to make the roof safe and watertight.

My roof is leaking, what should I do?

Where it is safe, place a container under the leak indoors and move anything valuable clear. Then send us a photo and a description. We will diagnose the likely cause and arrange to assess and fix it.

Will you tell me if a repair is not worth doing?

Absolutely. If a roof is near the end of its life and repairs would only be a short-term fix, we will tell you honestly and set out your options. We would rather give you the right advice than sell you work you do not need.

Do you fix chimneys, guttering and roofline?

Yes. Alongside the roof itself we handle chimney repairs and repointing, leadwork, and fascias, soffits and guttering, so the whole roofline is sound and weathertight.

What is integrated solar roofing?

Integrated, or in-roof, solar sits flush within the roof covering rather than being bolted on top, for a neater, more streamlined finish. We install the roofing side (battens, trays, flashing and panels) and a specialist solar subcontractor completes the electrical work, commissioning and MCS certification.

Can you fit solar as part of a re-roof?

Yes, and it is the best time to do it. Fitting integrated solar while we re-roof means the panels are built into the finished roof properly, with no retrofit brackets and a cleaner, more durable result.

Does integrated solar affect my roof guarantee?

Our 15-year workmanship guarantee covers the roofing works on supplied and fitted new roofs and re-roofs, including our installation of the in-roof solar roofing system. The electrical works, solar equipment and certification are handled by our specialist solar subcontractor and covered separately by the relevant installer and manufacturer terms.

Is my roof suitable for solar?

Most pitched roofs are suitable. As part of your survey we will check the orientation, pitch and condition, and give you honest advice on whether integrated solar makes sense for your property.
